The most popular website-building platform on the web

All GiteWise websites are built on WordPress. If that means something to you, the benefits need no introduction.

If not, all you really need to know is that a site built on WordPress is easy to manage and update and is about as future proof as it gets.

If you’re looking for some geeky stuff…

Every website is built on something called a platform. Different platforms have different characteristics, which can make them more attractive to designers, developers, beginners, experts and search engines. WordPress has become the world’s most popular platform of its kind. Wikipedia tells us 23.3% of the top 10 million websites are built on WordPress. And at the last count WordPress accounted for more than 75 million sites throughout the world.

Easy to update

You can access your site from any device with an internet connection. Once you’ve learned the basics, you’ll find changing or updating your site as easy as using email.

Search engine friendly

WordPress gives us a head start on getting your site noticed by the likes of Google and Bing. We can call on a range of tools and techniques to manage those all-important page titles, meta tags and image alt tags and boost your rankings.

Robust and reliable

WordPress sites are readily configured to comply with guidelines for good web practice. That makes them relatively free from bugs and validator issues and popular with web-hosting services.

Open-source: ongoing advances

Developers are constantly coming up with new ideas that can be ‘plugged in’ to WordPress much like apps can be added to a smartphone. These add extra functions, features and enhanced performance.

What more could you want? Well….

Using WordPress as the platform for your site is just the beginning. A GiteWise website comes with plenty more to shout about.

Protected against hackers and cyber attacks

Every GiteWise website benefits from Cloudflare firewall and filtering. CloudFlare protects against a range of threats: cross site scripting, SQL injection, comment spam, excessive bot crawling, email harvesters, and more. I also install and configure one of the web’s most trusted security plugins. This monitors your site for suspicious activity, provides another layer of protection and emails me whenever any of the site’s software needs updating.

Regular backups to deal with the unexpected

Even with these security measures in place, it’s important to have the reassurance you can restore your site to the way it was should disaster strike. GiteWise sites are backed up using two independent methods – one which makes daily backups to the host server, and one which stores a weekly updated archive file of your entire site in a separate secure location. So no matter what the web throws at your site, there’s always a safe route back.

Super fast cloud hosting with 24/7 support

The risk of disruption due to server downtime and technical glitches is part and parcel of having a website. My role is to minimise this risk and ensure your website continues to function as intended. That means seeking out a hosting company that can deliver the best combination of consistently high page speed, unshakable reliability and professional round-the-clock support. In 2015, GiteWise conducted a review of hosting companies and their services. You may not think there’s much to choose between them, but I can tell you first-hand, there’s a gulf of difference in the one thing that matters most: customer support. I can also say with complete confidence the hosting provider I now use for all GiteWise sites is second to none.

So much for the theory. How does it all come together?

Most people don’t realise how much work goes into creating a professional-quality website until they get started. And here I’m talking about your side of things, not mine. The good news is GiteWise has a couple of tools to help cut the job down to size. More about this on the Plan page.
